The subtitle might suggest that this is just a catalog, but it is a
nice introduction to the history of carbide lamps, with numerous patent
drawings and discussions of the use of the maps in mines and caves, illustrated
with black-and-white photos. The longest chapter is a list of manufactures and
their lamps, illlustrated with reproductions of advertisements and lamp
drawings by Weldell Wilson.
